A Message from the Headteacher

Mr Barber, HeadteacherWelcome to the Silkstone Primary School web site. We hope you enjoy your visit.

These are exciting times for our school. We have just had a three classroom extension added to our existing building. This has enabled us to bring class 4 who were taught in the mobile classroom across to the main school building, and allowed us to convert two of our smaller classrooms into a new staffroom and computer suite. As well as this, classes 5 and 6 who are in the older part of the building have had their rooms refurbished and extended and our administration rooms have been extended also. So almost every room in the school has been modernised or is brand new and we are left with a wonderful resource in which to learn and teach.
Enjoy your visit, have a good look around, and do give us any feedback you may have.

Kind regards,
Simon Barber
Headteacher

Important Notice - 7th May

Dear Parents,

I am writing to let you know that from this month our school has been designated a National Support School.

As you will all know our school was graded as outstanding by OFSTED in November 2008. The National College for School Leadership (NCSL) oversees a whole range of educational policy about school leadership nationally, and one of their initiatives has been to recruit and appoint National Leaders of Education (headteachers) with their schools, known as National Support Schools.

The basic philosophy is that because our school is outstanding, we can offer support and guidance to schools that are in difficulty

The criteria to be selected for this role are very high. Schools need to demonstrate that they are outstanding overall, have outstanding leadership and management, and that they have outstanding capacity to improve. Their results have to be outstanding, particularly in terms of achievement – the value that is added to children from a measured base line, and they need to demonstrate that they have worked successfully with other schools in the past.

It is important for you to be assured that this initiative will have a positive affect your child’s education. Things in our school will continue as normal, but from time to time we may have teachers from other schools visiting our school, and a member of staff may visit their school in return. This initiative is very much about schools helping schools for the good of all. The NCSL web site is very informative if you would like to find out more about the role. (www.ncsl.org.uk/nle)

As a school we are delighted to have achieved this status. We are the first school in Barnsley to gain it, and there are only 300 schools in the country to have achieved it. This places our school at the forefront of leadership development nationally, and will allow us to have some influence on education policy in the future. It is a huge achievement.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Mr S Barber
