Year 4 Becoming More Independent
Key Stage Two is an important time for children in their schooling, as the students are learning new skills and concepts whilst consolidating others. At this level of education, the students are moving towards becoming more independent, self-disciplined and organised learners
They are given the opportunity to look after and care for their own "space". It is a team effort and each one of us has a responsibility to provide a happy, fun filled learning environment where everyone feels safe.
Homework
The first two weeks have all been geared towards classroom routines. Children are asked to complete work on time and realise their potential. A rich environment is provided for them and we have recently taken delivery of two "reading pods" where children can read their books in isolation. Eight MP3 players have also been ordered for children to listen to "downloaded" stories.
Homework is as follows:
Reading individually or to an adult: 30 minutes or so each evening
Computer based activities using the Learning Portal: Studywiz
The current lesson will change on a weekly basis and they will have access to many other cross-curricular activities. Children who do not have access to a computer linked to the internet, will be able use the computer room at least twice a week.
The Arts: sketching, taking photos or videos, DT skills
Mathematics: Many of these will be computer based but there will be one paper activity a week. This will be given out on Friday and needs to be returned the following Monday, Tuesday at the latest.
Spellings: The children are asked to learn a range of spellings. Each week they will be asked to learn a number of spellings linked to their ability.
